So, you plan on homeschooling in Georgia? Well, I've got you covered with everything you need to know! Georgia is an easy state to homeschool in and you won't have any trouble getting started using the details I share below.
First up, you need to file your DOI. This is what notifies the state your child is not truant, they are enrolled in a home education program. If you pull your child from a public school setting, you have 30 days to notify the state via your DOI of your intention to homeschool and the local school system must be notified within 45 days.
Georgia doesn't require children under the age of 6 to be enrolled in an education program. So you can let them enjoy their early childhood and not start formal learning until the year they are six.
The parent doing the educating needs to meet this requirement.
You can learn more about what is required in this video if you like.
Beginning in third grade, we use this test. We like to do the untimed, online version for a low stress option. You do not have to turn this in anywhere. Just keep the results in your records.
Other options include:
Iowa Test of Basic Skills (ITBS)
***Please note that the Georgia Milestones, End-of-Grade and End-of-Courses Assessments are not nationally standardized tests.
You can find the details about high school requirements in Georgia here.
Feel free to share this information with other Georgia homeschooling families!

You’re right! Sorry if I wasn’t clear. Those are the state requirements for high school students. These align with what colleges and universities look for on a transcript. However, as I share in the graphics, the parents create the diploma and can establish the courses for their students.
Just to note that the graduation requirements you linked are for public school students and do not apply to homeschool students. Homeschool parents can make their own requirements based on the students future interests and goals.
