Savoring Summer Together: How to Create a Family Drink Station
Share
Summer days have a sweetness all their own. The long, warm evenings. Barefoot children running through the yard. The hum of crickets. And nothing quite completes those slow, sunlit moments like an ice-cold, homemade drink in hand.
One of our favorite traditions is setting up a simple Summer Drink Station right in our kitchen or on the porch - a little oasis of refreshment that brings the family together and keeps everyone hydrated and happy.
This isn’t about fancy gadgets or Pinterest perfection. It’s about welcoming our children into the kitchen, creating memories, and savoring the everyday banquet God has set before us—even in a glass of sparkling water with mint.
Setting Up Your Summer Drink Station:
You don’t need much, just a small area on your counter or outdoor table with:
- Mason jars, fun cups, or even vintage glasses from a thrift store
- A pitcher or two for ready-made drinks
- A basket of napkins
- Slices of lemon, lime, or berries for garnish
- Pretty straws or little drink umbrellas for fun
Encourage your kids to help set it up. This is where discipleship and daily life meet. It’s not just about drinks, it’s about inviting them into homemaking, hospitality, and shared joy.
Family-Friendly Drink Recipes from The Everyday Banquet:
Here are a few of our go-to summer sippers straight from the pages of my book:
1. Simple Limeade
Combine:
- 1/2 cup fresh lime juice
- 1/3 cup honey or sweetener of your choice
- 3 cups cold water
- Add sliced strawberries or blueberries for a festive twist!
2. Melon Sorbet Spritzers
- Fill glasses with frozen melon balls (watermelon, cantaloupe, honeydew)
- Top with sparkling water
- Add a small scoop of lemon or berry sorbet
- Swirl together for a cool, fizzy treat
3. Fruited Agua Fresca
In a blender, combine:
- 4 cups of cut fruit (think strawberries, cantaloupe, blackberries)
- 2 cups water
- 1 tablespoon lemon or lime juice
- 1/8 cup sugar or honey
- A few sprigs of fresh mint
Strain if desired and serve over ice.
These simple, nourishing drinks remind us that homemaking and hospitality don’t have to be complicated. It can be as easy as gathering at the counter, squeezing a few limes, and laughing together.
